What is Belego?
Belego is an app for iPhone and Android that lets you scan receipts with your phone camera, have them read automatically and keep them organised. For your tax return, your accountant or your employer you export any period as a ZIP with PDFs and a CSV list, or as a PDF report. Belego is Swiss software from Zurich and deliberately not an accounting program.
How do I scan a receipt with Belego?
Tap Add receipt, choose Scan (camera) and hold the camera over the receipt. Belego detects the edges, crops, straightens and saves the scan as a PDF. Multi-page invoices are scanned page by page into a single receipt. Photos from your gallery, PDF invoices and email attachments come in through import or the share menu, several files at once if you like.
Which details does Belego read automatically?
Amount, currency, date, merchant and category, plus a short factual note. With the bookkeeping fields switched on, also VAT rate, VAT amount and payment method. Belego never guesses: anything it cannot read reliably stays empty and you fill it in by hand. Every field can be overridden at any time, and the app warns you about likely duplicates.
What do I get when I export?
You pick a period (year, quarter, month or a custom range) and get a ZIP with every original PDF, named by date, merchant and amount, a CSV list with category and note, and a README file. Belego can also create a PDF report: an expense report with totals per month and category and every receipt attached.
Does Belego work with bexio, Banana, CashCtrl or Excel?
Yes, through the export. Upload the PDFs to bexio and similar tools, open the CSV list in Banana, CashCtrl or Excel. The CSV format follows your region and can be switched (Swiss, EU or standard) so Excel splits columns and reads amounts correctly. There is no direct integration with an accounting program.
Where are my receipts stored?
Only on your device. Belego needs no account and no login, has no cloud of its own and no tracking. Capturing, searching and exporting work offline. Only for automatic reading is a receipt sent encrypted, read and then discarded. To keep a copy you create a backup that includes your settings and categories.
How much does Belego cost?
The free version includes unlimited scanning and managing, export, PDF report and backup, plus your first 10 automatic reads (one time, no monthly reset). Belego Pro with unlimited automatic reads costs CHF 10 per month or CHF 50 per year. Without Pro you keep scanning and fill in the details by hand.
Can Belego record VAT?
Yes, optionally. Switch on the bookkeeping fields in Settings and Belego records VAT rate, VAT amount and payment method per receipt, reads them automatically where possible and includes them in the CSV and the PDF report. Belego does not file a VAT return; that stays with your accountant or accounting software.
Who is Belego for?
Self-employed people, freelancers, sole traders and small companies, but also employees with work expenses, landlords and anyone collecting receipts for a tax return. The app is available in 14 languages, handles multiple currencies and converts totals into your home currency for the overview.
